Equine Veterinary Technicians Certificate

Imagine being able to take those skills you’ve learned as a Veterinary Technician and build upon them further with a specialty in horses. The University of Guelph has unveiled its new Equine Veterinary Technician Certificate, which will offer a unique, hands-on educational opportunity to provide equine-specific academic and skill development for Veterinary Technicians with online and face-to-face practicum courses.

This professional development program will assist students in acquiring the knowledge and skills to lassist you develop an equine speciality. This program would be suitable for Veterinary Technicians with an interest in working in an equine hospital, large animal veterinary practice, rescue hospital, racetrack or horse breeding facility. Motivated students can complete the Equine Veterinary Technician Certificate in just one year.

Offered through the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, Equine Guelph, and Open Learning and Educational Support, the Equine Veterinary Technician Certificate consists of 12-week online courses including:

  • Equine Emergency Critical Care
    Schedule Monday August 19 - 23, 2013
  • Equine Reproduction for Veterinary Technologists
  • Equine Dentistry for Veterinary Technologists

The online portion of this program is open to anyone who meets the pre-requisites; this learning opportunity would also be suitable to students who have an interest in bettering their knowledge when it comes to equine health, nutrition, behaviour and functional anatomy.

The in-class practicum courses are restricted to Veterinary Technicians or students currently enrolled in a Veterinal Technology program.
